Smt. Priya Murle & Kartik Fine Arts present Natyadarshan 2019, conference and performances titled ‘Kadamba’ on 21st & 22nd December 2019 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore. The two-day event was launched with an inauguration ceremony where eminent names from the Carnatic music and dance fraternity were present

Chief Guest – Shri Shekhar Sen (Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi) conferred the title ‘Nritya Peroli’ on Ms. Malavika Sarrukai. Guest of Honour Smt Janaka Pushpanathan (Director- South India,British Deputy High Commission,Chennai) conferred the title ‘Natya Chudar’ (Instituted by Saba Foundation) on Ms. Varsha Sankar. Shri K.M.Narashiman (President, Kartik Fine Arts) presided and presened the Nrityajothi Award of Excellence (instituted by Sri R.M.Sundaram’s amily in memory of Smt. Uma Sundaram) to Ms. Padmalaksshme Suresh. Madura Kalamani Award (institued in the name of Smt. G.V.Aparna by Ms Krithika Subrahmanian in memory of Viwan Madurai N.Krishnan) to Ms. Gopika Varma, Mohiniattam Exponent and Guru.

A homage to the ancient art form of Bharatanatyam, Kadamba is a means of delving deeper into the evolution of Indian classical dance over time. Can an artistic practice evolve our consciousness? Is it possible for art to impact our body, mind and soul?

Through, Kartik Fine Arts Natya Darshan 2019, Kadamba, we explore the physical, emotional and spiritual impact of the art form. As we explore the layers of poetry, through Sangeetham and Natyam – the ability to comprehend the intellectual and metaphysical state of mind increases. All the sessions in Kadamba have been carefully crafted to deepen the consciousness and sensitivity towards the art form.

The two-day conference brought together some of Natya’s most innovative minds with the curiosity and creativity of young students and art enthusiasts, filling the space with discussions, lecture demonstrations and performances of the highest calibre.

Kartik Fine Arts launched Natya Darshan in 2001, narrowing the gap between artists and art in the field of natyam to highlight the pivotal future of the art form ahead of us. Over the last four decades, the organization has been devoted to the development of fine arts, nurturing the South Indian classical arts for audiences within and around India.

About Priya Murle:

Priya Murle, Convenor, Natya Darshan 2019, is a performer, teacher, and choreographer and has been in the field of Bharatanatyam for four decades. A senior disciple of Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy, with Priya’s intense training and commitment to the art form, she has carved a special niche in the field of natyam. A student of music, she has been trained by the Carnatic doyen Padmabhushan Vidwan Sri Madurai N. Krishnan, under the Sangeet Natak Akademi scholarship. She is known for her aptitude in nattuvangam, and has trained under Smt. Indra Rajan under the Sangeet Natak Akademi scholarship scheme. She received the Government of India Senior scholarship instituted by the Department of Culture.

Recently being awarded the Kalaimamani by the Tamil Nadu State Government, Priya has been the recipient of multiple awards through her career, including the Yuva Kala Bharathi, Nadanamamani, Bharatakala Bhushana, and the Rukmini Devi Arundale Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha.

As the Convener of the Kartik Fine Arts Natya Darshan, Kadamba, for the last 2 years Priya has built a niche for the conference through innovative pre-events and insightful sessions. The line-up of Kadamba 2019 transcends all the previous years through its interesting curation
