68th Information and Public Relations Day observed
The 68th Information and Public Relations Day, 2016 was celebrated yesterday at the State Information Centre (SIC), DIPR, Palace Gate, Imphal.
During the function, a 5-day photo exhibition on the 15 years achievements of the Congress Government was also inaugurated by Commissioner (IPR) K Radhakumar Singh.
Commissioner K Radhakumar who graced the celebration as chief guest, released a documentary film titled, “Chaokhat khongthangda Manipur”.
The film that was produced by DIPR, highlights the achievements of the Okram Ibobi led Congress Government in the last 15 years.
Speaking at the occasion, Radhakumar said the role of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) is very important.
DIPR could be considered as a two-way traffic as it not only inform the public about the activities and achievements of the Government but receives feedback from the public as well.
The Commissioner expressed hope that the shortage of manpower in the department could be solved when the recruitment process is completed.
“The existing recruitment rules need to be amended so that qualified and experienced staff could be inducted in the department”, he said.
He reminded the reporters of DIPR that reporting should be objective and not subjective.
Director of Information and Public Relations Meghachandra Kongbam emphasized on the urgent need to change the structure of the department so as to make the department specialized and professional which reaches out to every villages and households.
“It is the prime duty of the DIPR to maintain healthy relations with the public and address various social issues in Manipur”, he said.
