This conference aims at trying to update the surgeons regarding the recent innovations in the field, to train the new surgeons in laparoscopic hernia surgery, to try to answer the doubts that are encountered in day to day practice and to deal with unexpected scenarios”.
“Various complex hernias patients, who had failed multiple operations in the past have been fixed in a minimally invasive way in our hospital. We have a separate team of doctors at GEM Hospital who are dedicated for dealing such complex and large hernias. For some patients the hernia is so large that there abdomen cannot accommodate the entire hernial content which has been lying outside for long duration. Special strategies are being adopted like progressive pneumoperitoneum and/or intramuscular injection of Botox to prepare the abdomen to accommodate the massive herniated contents, in addition to muscular release operation known as component separation techniques for large hernias”, he added.
Speaking on the Occasion, Dr S Asokan, Director-CEO, GEM Hospital Chennai stated, “The highlights of the conference shall be Live surgical workshops, the Orations by the masters in the field, Video sessions of the latest techniques, etc. The intention of this Conference is to create a New Learning Experience, where we aim to introduce emotional learning in addition to intelligence and knowledge based learning. This summit will be a remarkable attempt where all the Asia pacific societies come together to create a master book on standardizing the Clinical Care Pathways. Establishing the best standards in clinical practice would lay the foundation to reduce the chances of morbidity & mortality and also aid in the best possible long term outcomes”.
